George Groves has predicted that his left hook will see him become a world champion in Saturday’s eagerly awaited rematch with Carl Froch at Wembley.Groves will be making his second attempt to take Froch’s IBF and WBA belts, having been controversially stopped in the ninth round when they met in November. Before that fight, Groves told Froch he would win the early exchanges and land with his right hand. The Hammersmith man was as good as his word, flooring Froch with a thumping right in the first round. He continued to dominate the fight only for referee Howard Foster to step in and end the contest following a flurry of shots from the champion. This time around Groves again promised to tell Froch at the final pre-fight press conference how he plans to win the fight. And he duly declared: “Anyone who has watched my media workouts will know we’ve been working on the left hook. And it’s the left hook that will finish Carl Froch.”Groves was furious when the first fight was halted.Froch, 36, was repeatedly tagged with punches before the contentious end to the pair’s first fight, but he insists he will deliver a clear-cut victory this time.“Of course I’ve still got what it takes and can still do what I do. Age, I know it’s a cliché, really is just a number,” Froch said.“I’m extremely confident and I put a lot of that down to the career I’ve had. Just enjoy it. I’m certainly going to.“When I turn up in the shape I am now, I’ve proved that I can perform at the top level and mix with the top fighters in the world.“I’m convinced this fight won’t go the distance. George Groves won’t hear the final bell.”But Groves, 10 years younger than his opponent, is convinced this weekend’s clash, which will be attended by a crowd of around 80,000, will herald his arrival as an elite-level fighter. The former British champion said: “We’ve worked on perfection in camp and this couldn’t be more perfect – I’m going to become world champion, in London, in front of so many people.“I’m going out on Saturday night to become champion and look very good doing it – and doing it on the biggest stage.“No stone has been left unturned. I’m fully prepared and can’t wait to become world champion.“I plan to arrive, not just in Britain but across the world, as a legitimate world champion and someone to be feared and chased.“I want to be a great ambassador for Britain on the world stage and it all starts on Saturday night.” West London Sport will have Twitter updates from Froch v Groves as well as James DeGale’s world title eliminator against Brandon Gonzales. About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Chelsea matchwinner Marcos Alonso: Our intensity earned Newcastle victoryby Paul Vegas5 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveChelsea fullback Marcos Alonso was delighted to prove the matchwinner in victory over Newcastle United. The Spaniard struck in the 73rd minute to secure a fifth consecutive win for Frank Lampard’s Blues, although the victory owed much to persistence and patience from those within the ranks. “Newcastle played very compact and it’s not easy to find spaces to attack or create chances but I think we played well in the second half. We were so intense and finally got the goal and the three points,” said the defender.”We believed because we knew the game would be like this – we were prepared for this and in the first half maybe we were lacking a bit of patience in the final third but in the end we were happy with the three points and the goals. It was a massive win after the international break.”He also told the club’s website: “We have many options in the team and this is good. The team is getting better, we are improving game by game and we need to continue in this way. We are moving the ball quickly, our press is good and we are doing a good job as a team. We have clear ideas and we have to continue in this way.”
Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress on Saturday released a new song titled Prothom Vote targeted towards first-time voters, on all its social media platforms. The song comes on the heels of the phenomenal response to the party’s first theme song Maa Mati Manush that was released a few days ago for the Lok Sabha elections. The catchline of the new song Tomar Prothom Vote Banglar Pokkhe Na Bipokkhe, Decision Nao (Take a decision whether your first vote will Also Read – Bengal family worships Muslim girl as Goddess Durga in Kumari Pujabe in favour of Bengal or not) has been penned by Trina-mool Youth Congress president and party MP Abhishek Banerjee. The rest of the lyrics has been written by Bengali rock singer Rupam Islam, who has also composed the music. Interestingly, the video follows the international lyric format, in which animated words appear on screen. The song carries the message that the Lok Sabha elections 2019 will be a significant event in the history of India. It reiterates that when the entire country is in turmoil because of hate and violence, an atmosphere of peace and harmony thrives in Bengal. Also Read – Bengal civic volunteer dies in road mishap on national highwayAs depicted through the song, development and not divisive politics gets an upper hand in the state. It states that 60 lakh girls have been empowered by Kanyashree. The scheme, along with Utkarsh Bangla and Sabuj Sathi, has received international recognition. It presents a picture of contrast regarding the employment scenario in Bengal and the country. While unemployment is on the rise across the country, in Bengal youths are being empowered to become self-dependent through schemes likes Gatidhara. The Silicon Valley Hub which is coming up at Rajarhat, is also set to open new avenues of employment generation. “We have urged the first-time voters to ‘take a decision’. Will their vote be in favour of or against Bengal? It is entirely their own discretion. This song makes it easier for them by putting things in perspective. Let their first-vote (prothom vote) be in favour of peace and progress. Let it be in Bengal and India’s favour,” a Trinamool youth leader said. The song assumes special significance as Bengal, with over 20 lakh voters, has the highest number of electors in the 18-19 age group in terms of names registered in the 2019 electoral rolls of the Election Commission of India before the Lok Sabha polls. Murshidabad, with more than 2 lakh names, records the highest registration of teen voters in the state, followed by South and North 24-Parganas and Nadia. The young voters are expected to play a pivotal role in the electoral process. TMC is confident that the song will be able to strike a chord with the young voters, who will cast their first vote (prothom vote). Abhishek Banerjee has appealed to the young generation to popularise the song over the course of the next month, through dance, videos, flash mobs, or any other way they want.
