Vancouver man accused of stealing car every key from dealership

first_imgA Vancouver man is under arrest in Beaverton, Ore., after being accused of stealing every car key at Damerow Beaverton Ford.Robert L. Bourne was taken to the Washington County Jail on suspicion of first-degree aggravated theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, second-degree burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal mischief.Beaverton police said they were called to the Ford dealership at 7:11 a.m. Thursday after the morning manager arrived to find someone had broken into the dealership overnight and stolen every car key, in addition to a 2012 Ford Shelby Mustang.The burglar broke a window in a side bay door, kicked in the door to the manager’s office and ransacked it, destroying a desk in the process. The dealership is at 12325 S.W. Canyon Road.Bourne was in custody before the crime was even reported. At 5:09 a.m., Milwaukie, Ore., police had stopped a man driving the 2012 Shelby Mustang for not having any license plates. The man fled on foot, but was captured a short distance away.The Mustang, valued at $58,000, was not damaged. Police also recovered 220 car keys and several dealer license plates, according to a police bulletin. Each key contains a microchip that corresponds to one particular vehicle. If the keys had not been recovered each car would have needed to be rekeyed, costing Damerow Ford more than $100,000 in replacement costs, police said.last_img read more
