About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your say Guardiola denies Man City pitch-tampering for Liverpoolby Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester City manager Pep Guardiola has denied he tampered with the pitch before Thursday’s win over Liverpool. There has been talk that the Spaniard ordered City groundstaff to grow the grass extra-long in a bid to stifle Liverpool’s quick-passing game.”I’m not the groundskeeper,” said Guardiola. “I never did. If they want to play quick, we want to play quicker. We always try to put water on, but it’s not necessary here.”We want to cut the field – it’s better conditions for both teams. When this happens, you do the best for opponents.”We have to respect them with the rules. I never speak with the groundsman.”I have many issues to think about that. I trust the groundsman – I never made a phone call to say do this to damage our opponents. When you do that karma tends to get you.”
Genoa coach Andreazzoli: We did not deserve defeat to AC Milanby Carlos Volcano20 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveGenoa coach Aurelio Andreazzoli felt they did not deserve defeat to AC Milan. Lasse Schone had Genoa ahead before Theo Hernandez and Franck Kessie struck for the visitors. Pepe Reina secured the points with an injury-time penalty save.Andreazzoli said, “It was an odd game. I complimented the lads at the end of the first half, as they played the game I expected. Then, in a couple of minutes we made some inconceivable naïve errors and threw it all away. You can’t afford that at this level.“After that, the team again did everything we had asked for, even more so, fighting with their hearts on their sleeves. There are regrets, clearly, as we play for a result and it hurts to emerge empty-handed from a match like that, but football is a combination of incidents and interpretations.“We played very well and it’s a pity for the lads, as they did not deserve the defeat. I do not protest at refereeing decisions. He went to view it on VAR, so he must know the decision he made.“Incidents went against us, Reina made up for his earlier error and saved them at the end. It was a game that deserved a different ending.” About the authorCarlos VolcanoShare the loveHave your say
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that he will be sticking with Petr Cech for their upcoming game against Chelsea on SaturdayCech’s status as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper has been put into question following Bernd Leno’s £22m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window. But, while he retained his place in goal for Arsenal’s first league game of the season against Manchester City, Cech struggled to adapt to Emery’s new style of play and had nearly conceded an own goal.Although the 36-year-old did pull some saves during the encounter, despite the Gunners losing 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side.“I am very happy with his performance,” said Emery, according to Sky Sports.Solskjaer praises Harry Maguire after Man United’s 1-0 win Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out Harry Maguire for praise after helping Manchester United keep a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over Leicester City.“I think he has experience, quality, capacity like a first goalkeeper with us – and also Bernd Leno.“They are two goalkeepers important for us. Different qualities but for us, like we want to play, the two goalkeepers can play.“Saturday the decision is easy, Petr Cech will continue to start the match, I believe in him. If he starts bad, I believe in him also.”Arsenal will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
La Liga thanks FC Barcelona for their willingness to cooperate once everybody agrees upon terms and announces that the US project will continue. The Spanish league released a statement in response to FC Barcelona dropping out of the Miami match against Girona FC, and despite ardent opposition, will continue with plans to play a league match overseas. FIFA president Gianni Infantino said he would block La Liga’s plans to play a match in the United States and the Association of Spanish Footballers spoke out against the plan from Relevent – the company that created the International Champions Cup.“From La Liga, we want to congratulate FC Barcelona and Girona FC for their willingness to be pioneers in the voluntary intention to play a La Liga match outside of Spain,” the statement read, as translated by Goal.Top 10 players who played for both Barcelona and Valencia Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 Time to talk about the best players who represented both Barcelona and Valencia, prior to their La Liga encounter at Camp Nou this evening.“The La Liga project with Relevent, signed for 15 years, continues. From the first moment we stated that participation in the game is voluntary and if FC Barcelona expresses its voluntary wish not to attend, this game scheduled in Miami cannot be held on the agreed date.“From La Liga, we regret, as it could not be otherwise, the disappointment that may occur among our fans in the USA. We want to convey to all of them that, in the shortest possible time, La Liga will play an official match in the USA, just like the major American leagues [NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL] outside their borders.
After his goal vs Amiens in Ligue 1 for PSG, youngster Kylian Mbappé achieved another stat that proves he is comparable to Brazilian Ronaldo.Regardless of what any of us thinks about either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in today’s football, there is no denying that Kylian Mbappé already is one of the best players in football history at the age of 20 years old.The French phenomenon played this weekend in Ligue 1 against Amiens in a match where Neymar wasn’t present, he scored an ominous 70th-minute goal that was coincidentally his 70th career goal as well. The scary part of all this is the age in which the World Cup champion reached this number, because when compared to other all-time greats from modern football, only Brazilian Ronaldo scored more goals at that same stage of his career.Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo pale in comparison at the same age, but Brazilian Ronaldo’s stats at that age were very scary for such a young player. Those damn knee problems were the only reason the Brazilian didn’t become the best player in football history, because the numbers he was already punching in were already around triple digits. But the comparisons started taking a weird turn right after Kylian Mbappé scored this goal when people in the UK started comparing him to poor Danny Welbeck from Arsenal FC on social media.Danny Welbeck, 28 years old:69 club career goalsKylian Mbappe, 20 years old:70 club career goals pic.twitter.com/dKYvGZ2qYn— Ophicial Manando ⚽ (@ophicialmanando) January 12, 2019It may have been a skit at first with this comparison between the English striker who has scored 69 career-goals and he is already 28-years old, this comparison is at best unfair and people need to leave Danny alone. The current season for Kylian Mbappé has him already scoring 13 Ligue 1 goals this season, a number that keeps him at the very top of the goal scoring table in French football and only three goals shy off Lionel Messi’s 16 La Liga goals. The fight for the Golden Shoe is starting to take shape, and Kylian Mbappé is hands down one of the most important contenders for this prize that the Messi owns at the moment. We are living in a new era after 2018, one that will start to tell us that the new generations are taking over from the old ones and this French wonder kid is at the very top of the conversation with his Ligue 1 goals. But the competition is fierce throughout Europe, as there are many players who are currently competing for the Golden Shoe from not only Ligue 1 and La Liga, but also from Serie A, the Bundesliga, and the Premier League.Match Preview: Barcelona vs Valencia Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 Is derby time in La Liga, as Barcelona welcomes Valencia to the Camp Nou Stadium tonight at 21:00 (CET).Kylian Mbappé being right up there mentioned with the players we are about to mention boggles the mind because of how young he is.Wooooo. Mbappe goal. Awesome break and counter by PSG pic.twitter.com/G8WonafhKf— Billy M (@Wideoverload) January 12, 2019We’ve already mentioned Mbappé and Messi leading their respective competitions, but Cristiano Ronaldo is still going strong with his 14 goals in Serie A. The Bundesliga has Spaniard Paco Alcacer and Croatian Luca Jovic with 12 goals each. But hands down the most competitive race for goals is currently in England, where Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane have been challenged by Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. All of the Premier League strikers have currently 14 goals each, but the Tottenham Hotspur striker has a golden opportunity to take the lead of Sunday if he manages to score against Manchester United at Wembley this Sunday. The competition is very stiff all over Europe, a very different landscape to the one we had only four years ago when the world was widely dominated by Messi and Cristiano with the occasional appearance of Luis Suarez. The Uruguay striker, by the way, is also fully involved in the race for the Golden Shoe with his 12 La Liga goals for FC Barcelona so far this season.Kylian Mbappé is in very good company right now, but he can only be compared to the likes of Brazilian Ronaldo now after reaching his latest milestone. It’s scary to think how far he can get, we’ll be there throughout the whole way to find out.⚽️ Goals scored before age of 20 for club + country:Ronaldo (92) Kylian Mbappé (64)Neymar Jr (48) Sergio Aguero (44) Wayne Rooney (43) Lionel Messi (27) Cristiano Ronaldo (20)Still 70 days before Mbappe turns 20. pic.twitter.com/j2N0odQCrb— CaughtOffside (@caughtoffside) October 11, 2018How many career goals do you think Kylian Mbappé will be able to score by the time he retires? A fifth form student wrote a poem which speaks to the rapidly changing times in student and young life in the Capital.Excerpt from ‘This is Your Appeal’ by Vanessa Fraser: “…what a shame, it was just yesterday that I knew their name, now it’s not the same, ‘cause guess what, they can’t even tame, so now they’re framed! Where’s our future generation, aren’t we all one nation? Where we come together as one, bond together with love but we rather be racist so we start contemplating about who does this and that then we judge and start hatin’!…”Vanessa Fraser encouraged her heartbroken school mates to keep God first, to keep going despite and that success is inevitable if they take her advice. The school’s new top story to the Administrative block along with student records were destroyed in that early morning fire two Fridays ago, which was heroically extinguished thanks to the airport’s fire crew.
