J-E boys indoor track finishes second at Constantino meet

first_imgRight before everyone got some holiday rest, area high school indoor track and field teams competed one more time the previous weekend.Most of them were at SRC Arena for the George Constantino Memorial Invitational on Dec. 21, competing in both sessions, with Jordan-Elbridge second in the boys afternoon session with 65 points behind Cicero-North Syracuse.The boys Eagles won the 4×400 relay by having Derek Quigley, Aiden Lewis, Colin Jewsbury and Michael Bennick go three minutes, 52.79 seconds to beat out the 3:55.30 from C-NS. Kyra White, clearing 7’6”, finished third in the pole vault as Cassandra Gates took sixth place. Coral Uhle was fifth in the 1,500-meter run, with Olivia Bennett fifth in the 1,000 as Abby Burns was sixth in the long jump.Solvay, in the afternoon meet, had Erica Bagozzi win the girls pole vault, clearing 8 feet, and the boys were second in the 4×200 in 1:41.39, also earning a third-place finish in the boys 4×400 in 4:00.50.Earlier, in the morning session, Skaneateles, West Genesee and Marcellus took part, and each had plenty of standout performances.The Lakers’ Emme Conan was second in the 55 sprint in 7.56 seconds to Syracuse ITC’s Fannie Kumeh (7.50), and also got second in the 300 (43.44 seconds) to Fayetteville-Manlius’ Fiona Mejico (43.05), also helping the Lakers get third place in the 4×200 in 1:55.84 to beat out WG’s 1:56.13.Reagan Evans threw the shot put 31’9 1/4” to finish second as Sarah Tallerico was third in the 1,500, with Marcellus having Anella Bolster get fourth place in the 3,000. Sophia Shaw cleared 5 feet in the high jump for fourth place as her Mustangs finished third in the 4×400.WG got its most points from the girls 300 sprint, where Sandy Gardino finished fourth in 46.95 seconds, just ahead of Caitlin Mills (47.23) and Mikeayla DeJesus (47.40) in the next two spots.On the boys end, Skaneateles had Caleb Bender go 4:29.76 in the 1,600 for third place, with WG’s Matt Bartolotta fifth before helped the Wildcats take second in the 4×800 in 9:23.05.Marcellus had Ryan White get second place in the 300 in 39.13 seconds as Kevin Donath finished third in the 600 and Matt Stearns was fourth in the pole vault. WG”s Peter McMahon was fourth in the 3,200.Back on Dec. 20, Westhill was at Utica College for the third Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association meet of the winter, where its girls Warriors finished fourth out of 24 teams with 54 points and the boys had 36 points for ninth place.Ashley Heffernan won the girls 55 hurdles in 9.46 seconds, edging South Lewis’ Alyssa Youngs (9.48) for the top spot. Then Heffernan cleared 9’6” to beat the field in the pole vault,.In the 4×400, the Warriors prevailed as Lauren Bendall, Ashley Bolesh Angie Mesa-Espinosa and Katherine Evans posted 4:21.32, more than 11 seconds ahead of the field.Then Westhill got another relay title in the 4×200, having Heffernan, Mesa-Espinosa, Bendall and Bolesh go 1:54.27, well clear of runner-up Utica Proctor (1:56.66) and the field.On the boys side, the Warriors’ Mike Ferrara was victorious in the 600 in 1:26.88 as Brandon Mulholland took sixth place. Angelo Carr added a second-place finish in the 3,200 in 10:29.21, with Jacob Fricano second (2:47.46) and Brian Kenny fourth (2:54.08) in the 1,000.Bishop Ludden was also in the MVITA meet, getting 12 points on the girls side.
