Pochettino ‘very angry’ with flaky Tottenham after letting lead slip again

first_imgTottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was ‘very angry’ with his side after they squandered a lead to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at Leicester.Spurs were far from their best in Saturday’s trip to the King Power Stadium, but the Foxes’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season looked to be at an end after Dele Alli netted a late opener. The substitute, a £5million signing from MK Dons last season, stooped to head Spurs into the lead with his first ever Tottenham goal after 81 minutes. But the advantage was extremely short-lived as Leicester went straight up the other end and equalised through Riyad Mahrez; the Frenchman’s fourth goal in three games. The draw means Spurs are without a win in their first three games – after Stoke scored two late goals to come back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 last weekend. And an unimpressed Pochettino insists their concentration in the closing stages must improve.“I am very angry, very upset, about this situation,” said the boss.“The mistake we made today is difficult to explain. It’s a shame for me, the way we concede the goal.“It’s not about football, it’s about being more aggressive and to be focussed to do our job. My concern and my focus this week will be to compete much better.“It was 50/50, a very difficult game for both teams,” Pochettino added.“In the second half we played much better, but I am disappointed with the draw. Last game against Stoke we lost a 2-0 lead and we did it again. We deserved more again but it is a shame.“We need to compete better to the end because against Stoke we conceded late also – two goals.”last_img read more
