Fire Prevention Week to kick off with events at Home Hardware

first_imgNext Sunday marks the start of Fire Prevention week in BC, and the Fort St. John Fire Department is hosting an array of fun, local events at Home Hardware from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on October 4th to start things off.There will be a BBQ by donation, as well as fire trucks, the fire safety house, and inflatable slide and fire hose target stations.From Monday to Friday, the Fire Prevention team will be attending schools to provide fire safety talks to students.- Advertisement -The aim of the 2015 Fire Prevention Week campaign is to raise awareness and keep families safe with a working smoke alarm in every bedroom – students will be asked to submit a drawing with the Fire Prevention Week theme, “Hear the Beep where you Sleep.”Grade 3 students will get a tour of the fire safety house, as well as partake in the Fire Chief for a Day contest – the winner will get picked up and dropped off at school in a fire truck and will bring two friends to the Fire Hall for lunch in a fire truck.As part of the week’s activities, the Office of the Fire Commissioner’s annual iPad contest will include a prize winner in each of the five geographic OFC zones of the province.Advertisement Fire Prevention Week was established to remember the Great Chicago Fire – a fire in October of 1871 that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.The City of Fort St. John says fire departments from across Canada and the United States “work to raise public awareness about the dangers of fire and how to prevent it.”last_img read more
