first_img1 Lionel Messi in action for Barcelona Barcelona have moved to try and head off Manchester City and the rest of the Premier League’s interest in Lionel Messi amid reports he could be set to quit Spain.The Argentine ace has been at the centre of stories claiming he is unhappy with the methods of coach Luis Enrique and Barca’s relative lack of recent success.Messi himself said his future is far from certain when he again finished runner-up in the Ballon D’or awards to Cristiano Ronaldo.But Barca president Josep María Bartomeu says his club’s best player is not going anywhere, for any fee.Bartomeu said: “I have contact with Messi and he is happy, with a lot of ambition and desire to win.“He puts in more work than most. There will never be another player like him. He told me that he wants to end his career at Barça and his commitment and willingness are the maximum.“There is no debate about his future, he already said that he wanted to stay and he has a contract here.
